Our history

The history of Oakley House

The Grade II listed house was originally built in 1742 and quickly became a major feature of the area. As the centuries passed the house was renovated several times and, during a less glamorous period, the grounds were used as a pigsty. In the 20th century the house’s fortunes improved and it served as a hospital during both world wars. Following the end of the second world war it began to see use as a function hall, which cemented it as a local fixture. It was bought by the current directors in 1970 and has quickly become highly-regarded as one of the South East’s leading events venues.
